For Future Reference...

I have been thinking for a little while now that I should write down the things that I have really missed being able to do since my ACL surgery so that later in life when I feel like complaining about things (like having to walk around Disneyland when my feet hurt) I will remember "Once Upon a time when I couldn't do diddly squat..." I had the surgery about 6 weeks ago, so I will try to start from there (since some things that were challenging then are easy peazy these days).

  1. Taking a shower without assistance.
  2. Taking a shower at all (For a while I had to take baths with my leg sitting out..ugh).
  3. Sleeping without a hot, heavy brace on my leg.
  4. Cuddling...and other things.
  5. Being able to shave my legs really fast
  6. Walking
  7. Walking normal
  8. Walking fast
  9. Running
  10. Playing sports
  11. Exercising (Honestly, I have never in my life wanted to exercise as badly as I do now).
  12. Drive (I just got my privileges back 2 days ago. Good times. I am pumped about going to the grocery store and preparing meals again. It's a miracle, because I didn't even like going to the store by myself before the surgery).
  13. Work (My boss was so kind and gave me a desk job though. But it's not the same as being a tech).
  14. Not being confined the couch for 4+ hours a day.
  15. Not being on heavy pain killers that mess with your mind
I'm sure there are more, and I will add them to the list if I think of them later.

NOW for things that I am grateful for:
  1. This has been a wonderful opportunity for me to see how wonderful Taylor is at taking care of me. He was absolutely wonderful, and I do not doubt for a second that he will be a wonderful father someday. Yum yum.
  2. I cut down my hours at work because it was hard to sit there that long, plus I was going to 4 hours of physical therapy every week, so it was just easier that way. While we miss the money, it has been so good to have extra time to spend with one another and just have a relaxing last semester of college!
  3. Because Taylor has had to drive me everywhere we go, we have gotten in the habit of driving only one car to school, plus we have been able to spend more time together that way as well.
  4. This is lame, but I have loved just being able to sit on the couch and not have to worry about making dinner, and getting all the stuff done that demands my attention. I finally had an excuse to be a little lazy. Haha.
  5. I got to experience basically what it would be like to be on drugs, and I realized I will NEVER in a million years do drugs or get addicted to them in any way...they are terrible, no fun, rotten little dirty things I did not enjoy.
  6. It gave me the opportunity to reflect and really pay attention to how much Taylor serves me and looks out for me and gave me the desire and will to do the same for him in return...even if he hasn't had surgery, just the day to day things.
That is all...but it was fun wasn't it? Oh well, time to clean the house and do something before I GET to  go pick up Taylor from school.
